With 24 countries represented, Canada’s own John Part and Ken MacNeil are in tough against some of the world’s best-known names.

The two Canucks will get a bye in the first round, facing the winner of either Finland or Belgium in a best of 11 match.

The winning team will receive £40,000, with £150,000 in total prize money available.

Play is expected to begin around 7PM (2PM EST).

Lenny McNevin and Paul O’Shaugnessey from Oshawa, Ontario set the new Guinness World Record for longest darts marathon at 36 hours 10 minutes and 10 seconds.

Their new record, is 4 hours longer than the previous mark, set only 2 weeks earlier, and a full 6 hours longer than the record set earlier this summer that was the original inspiration behind it all.

During the course of what really was a marathon session, the pair played over 400 games, scored over 300,000 points, and saw 250-300 people in attendance through the weekend, including a new crew from CTV Television.

Since there weren’t any Guinness officials on hand, the results will have to be verified, but from what we know about the meticulous preparation that’s just a matter of routine.

Congrats guys, and thanks for inspiring us all!

Wow! We’re glad he’s getting such a great response and we’ll send out 100 more as these guys are doing such a tremendous raising the profile of darts in this country.

He also told me the record set earlier this summer by 2 Californians has just been beaten by a couple of ladies in the UK, to make it somewhere in the 32 hour range. Paul said that new record has just been confirmed by Guinness World Records.

Again, the event goes next weekend at CCA Unit 42 in Oshawa starting at 8AM Saturday the 27th of November.

Bill St. Coix after hitting a perfect 501 game in 9 darts

(CanadaDarts.com – Nov. 15, 2010) Every once in a while we get word about somebody doing the ultimate in darts – a perfect game.

We’re not talking about the pros on the tour, part of the multi-million dollar machine with sponsorship, and international travel and all the television rights – and the groupies.

We’re talking about a local dart player who’s pretty good, but not international good.

Bill StCroix from St. John’s, Newfoundland is that guy.

A dart player for 18 years, and a serious dart player for 3, Bill finally achieved what the vast majority of players will never do – a perfect 9-dart game in a recent Premier league match.

Playing in his regular league night at Rosie O’Grady’s in Mount Pearl, just outside St. John’s, Newfoundland, Bill Hit the milestone in his match against fellow dart player Clifford Hanlon.

Looks like it came just in time as Bill said it was a tight match before that, and he needed a win to tie their Best of 14 match 6-6, before going on to tie at 7-7.

Throwing 2 180s in a row, Bill tensed a little as he threw for his 7th Triple 20, then headed to the bottom right for Triple 15 to leave 36. He then hit the double with his first dart, landing in the top left next to the wire.

We didn’t talk to Bill’s opponent Clifford to ask him what it was like, but you can just imagine, a couple legs away from taking the match and then having THAT happen to you.

From all accounts though it was all a great celebration, with the crowd of 20 or so in attendance all offering their congratulations after witnessing a darts feat they’ll remember for the rest of their lives.

This isn’t the first time Bill’s been on a national stage as he’s played in the Nationals as part of the Newfoundland and Labrador team in 2009.

We’d certainly encourage him to carry on and see how far his obvious talent will get him.

I spoke to Bill the day after on the phone, probably before it had time to sink in and I forgot to ask: Did he get a free drink from the bar?

We’ll let you know later.

Now we’re pleased to tell you that a new World Record Attempt is happening north of the border, in Oshawa, Ontario.

Long time dart players Lenny McNevin and Paul O’Shaughnessy are ready to make the attempt starting on Saturday November 27, and attempt to get their names in the record books for playing the longest continuous match of darts in history.

They’ll start around 9:00 am Saturday and run continuously until sometime the next day, Sunday the 28th.

The event is designed to raise money for the Canadian Corps Veterans Association Branch #42 in Oshawa, Ontario, which we were told has come into some financial trouble.

The current record, which was recently recognized by Guinness, is 30 hours and 7 minutes. That means sometime around 3:08 on Sunday we’ll know if they were successful.

We’ve been told that there is a lot of community buzz with the local Rogers cable television station in Durham putting an interview with them into heavy rotation, and a large crowd is expected the Sunday afternoon.

Paul has been playing for nearly 30 years and Lenny for 7.

We’ll keep our ears close to the ground and give you some updates as they get closer to the day.

The Big Push For Darts in Canada, which we’re involved with, has created flyers that anyone in the country can print off and hang in their local dart space.

The idea is this: Be Visible.

Hang one up around any dartboard and you’d be amazed at the number of ex-players and folks who want to play darts. It brings people out of the woodwork! And in a good way.

Wear your Big Push For Darts button and people will know that you’re a dart player. If people are curious about how they can start playing again, or just want to learn how to play, they’ll start the dialogue.

We’ve already some great feedback from people who’ve worn their buttons around to their local and had people come up to them asking about darts.

It’s a little step, but one that works!

Saturday August 14th was a big day for darts in Southern Ontario.

We had 50-some players come out for 2 new versions of our popular King of the Hill series of tournaments – King of the Hill Elite and “F” The Elite.

The idea was a a simple – run two tournaments side-by-side, one for Elite players, and the other for ‘regular’ players.

This way the ‘regular’ players could play in their own tournament without having some of the best shots beat them handily.

Also, if a player felt like it was time to step it up a notch or two, he or she could play in the Elite event and play some of the best.

We had a great turnout with Dan Olson, consistently one of the best shots in Canada, besting 3-time World Champ John Part 5-2 in the final.

About 2 dozen of the players from the “F” The Elite tournament either stayed or stopped their play to watch the Elite finals.

When you think about it this way, the “F’ players had a chance to play in a tournament with mostly other players of their level, had a chance to play in the same room as a darting legend, and have a great day out.
